Become a Volunteer
New volunteers to help in the shop are always welcome to join us. No previous experience is necessary and support and training is provided. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, including our wonderful customers and other volunteers on the team.
A rota shift usually lasts for 2 hours, and you can do as many or as few shifts as you want or are able to. By all means come and do a 1-hour taster session alongside Sue or one of our other volunteers to give it a go. You can have a regular slot once (or more times) a week, or be more flexible depending on your commitments. All we ask for is enthusiasm, reliability, a willingness to help, and a welcoming smile!
Our team of volunteers have reported many benefits of being involved. It provides an opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, learn new skills, put existing skills to good use and to give something back to the community.
One of our volunteers, Amanda said: “I started volunteering at the shop when I first moved to Metfield, partly because I thought it was the right thing to do to give something to the community, but partly because I wanted to meet people and find a connection. It didn’t take long to get to know people, to find out what’s going on, and to get involved in other things going on in the village. It’s really great, and I love my Saturday morning shift!”
If you would like more information on getting involved, please contact the shop manager by email, phone, or just pop into the shop for an informal chat.
Become a Shareholder
As a community CIC enterprise, Metfield Stores Ltd is owned by shareholders who have committed to materially supporting the existence and continued development of the shop. As such they provide the foundation of the shop and represent all that it stands for. Many see this as a chance to play an important role in a community enterprise that has become the heart of the village. In doing so they provide a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit the community in perpetuity.
We welcome new shareholders from anywhere at any time. The minimum shareholding is £1.00.
Your involvement will help ensure the successful future of our shop.”.

Become a Board Member
The shop is overseen by a management board, chaired by local resident Paul Smith. Each director supports a different area of the shop’s activities including finance, IT, health & safety, retail, publishing, human resources, legal, charities and so on. We enjoy the rich mix of talent and commitment on our board, and welcome others to join us to contribute.
The Board leads and oversees the workings and finances of the shop, and ensures it has appropriate policies in place and good governance. The Board is elected at our Annual General Meeting. If you are interested in joining the committee, please contact Paul Smith (Chair) or Sue Mead (Manager) via our contact page.
